College Stationary Haul


From a young age I have always had a complete obsession with stationery. If there is notebooks or cute pens around, you will find me in that aisle. As you know, I started my masters in February which meant I got to stock up on Stationary. Every now and again when I need some motivation or when my supplies run low, I pop in to either Mr. Price, TK MAXX or Penney’s to stock up on some necessities that also look great.

On the first day of my course we all got given a Filofax organiser and I must say this has become my life. Its just a simple black Filofax but all my due dates and plans are in here. I find the black is a bit boring so some nice stickers are a great way to jazz it up a bit.

Having a pretty journal to take notes in makes college easier. As part of my college course we are always taking notes during client meetings and classes so having something that looks good definitely makes it that bit easier. I am a big fan of Marble so absolutely love this journal from

I love to be organised so having a pencil case in my handbag ensures I have my highlighter, post-its and pens on me at all times, especially at client meetings, classes and during the day.

I absolutely love to use different coloured pens to organise my filofax. I use on colour for assignments and another colour for the gym or client work.

Saturday Morning Smoothies!

Smoothie.jpgOver the past week I have focused a lot on eating plenty of good food! As many of you will know I have been quite sick and have just had surgery so getting all the nourishment and good foods is so important to be at the moment! Another reason is summer is getting closer each day!

To kick start this Saturday morning here are some delicious smoothies to kick start your day!

Strawberry and Banana Smoothie


300g Strawberries

1 banana peeled

1/2 cup of honey

200ml of Almond Milk (or normal milk depending on your preference)

15g ChiaBia Chia seeds


Add all the ingredients in to a smoothie baker (I opt for a nutri-bullet) and blend until smooth.

Pour in to a glass and enjoy!

Triple Berry Smoothie


600g mixed berries (Strawberries, raspberries and blueberries)

1 Banana

200ml Almond Milk

Chia Bia Chia seeds

200g Glenisk Greek Yoghurt


Add all the ingredients in to a smoothie baker (I opt for a nutri-bullet) and blend until smooth.

Pour in to a glass and enjoy!

Peanut butter and Banana Smoothie

1 Banana

1 Tbsp of Fiona’s Nutterly Nutritious Peanut butter (Or almond butter/peanut butter of choice)*

Ice Cubes

200ml Almond Butter


Add all the ingredients in to a smoothie baker (I opt for a nutri-bullet) and blend until smooth.

Pour in to a glass and enjoy!

A journey of a thousand miles begin with a smile!

Over the past few months I have been researching and researching brace options in Dublin. As a teenager I did have train-tracks, when I was young there was no such thing as Invisalign. About two years ago my wisdom teeth grew and pushed up, knocking all of my teeth out of alignment again (GRRR!). My parents spent a lot of money on my teeth so I knew I couldn’t ask them to help me again so this time I was all on my own.

Where to begin? 

For me, I have always had an awful fear of the dentist, which definitely made it harder to find an orthodontist that I felt comfortable with. The second issue was that I just started a masters, which entailed a lot of public speaker. As a public speaker I definitely lack confidence without adding a metal mouth in to the mix, which meant I was fairly set on Invisalign. So basically I needed an Invisalign provider that was an absolute expert in this area. This was not easy, there are so many dentists offering a cheap fix and it seems like such a good option, but for me this is a lifetime of investment.

Where too? 

I won’t bore you with the list of orthodontists I visited, but the one I felt the most comfortable (with my fear!) and was an expert in Invisalign was in NewPark dental clinic in Blackrock. Dr, Mairlin O’Donnell was an absolute lady, explained everything, I ever told her about my irrational fear, which she took very well! And I felt completely at ease.

Dr. O’ Donnell, explained all the types of treatment available from train tracks, to white braces to Invisalign. Invisalign is slightly more expensive than the other options but for me, I love the freedom of being able to take it out and the fact that it is INVISIBLE! I have loads of friends that have Invisalign and rarely notice their braces.

Tomorrow I will be heading to Blackrock for my first appointment, which consists of a hygienist appointment and a scan for the Invisalign. A 3D scanner allows the dentist to scan your teeth and produce your perfect smile, in addition to this Dr. O’Donnell will do some calculations on how to best manipulate your teeth and a few weeks later I will come back from the aligners. How easy does that sound?

The process itself certainly sounds easy but as a masters student saving up for this was definitely difficult. After getting the final quote from NewPark Dental I did all my calculations and saved hard to be able to afford my perfect smile (Cheesey! I know!). The dentist also requires a x-ray of your teeth and depending on where you go this costs anywhere from 50-100euro. If you read my previous post you will know I have been in hospital the past few days so a kind word with my doctor and she ordered the x-ray for me and they did it while I was an in-patient in Tallaght. They felt very sorry for me spending my birthday in hospital.

My Checklist when choosing a dentist: 


When I was doing my homework, I had a little mental checklist I went through which helped me decided on NewPark Dental Clinic.

  • Dentist expertise (Certifications, Are they on the Invisalign website, reviews online?:
  • Location (This might not sound like a big one, but you will need to make trips to the dentist, so this was definitely a factor for me):

NewPark dental ticked every box and more for me which is why I have decided to go with them and have my first appointment tomorrow. I have always been so intrigued in the process of Invisalign. I suppose, it is partly the fear of the unknown. I will keep you posted on my Invisalign journey and hopefully will have an improved smile after.

Your Health Is Your Wealth

life quoteOver the past few weeks I have spent 22 days in hospital recovering from surgery. After recovering I ended up needing emergency surgery. The hospital staff and medical doctors were fantastic from start to finish. The next few months require a lot of medical appointments and tests but at least I am starting to feel on the mend. Over the last few weeks in hospital it certainly showed me how fragile life is, life is something that should be cherished and not taken for granted; Which is easier said than done.

I just wanted to give you guys a quick update about where I was. The Irish student blog will be back in action from now on;

Back In Action


Hi everyone,

Happy Saturday! It feels like an absolute lifetime since I have blogged. Since starting my masters my life has been an absolute whirlwind. The last few weeks has brought some surprises of its own. If you have been following my social media channels, you will have seen I was in the hospital. I had surgery on my pancreas (Not fun!)

I have only just got out of hospital, (yesterday) and am hope relaxing. My surgery was meant to be pretty simple and straight forward with the usual risks of complications. Unfortunately, I was that small percentage that suffered severe complications and ended up spending 10 days in hospital, 3 of these days spent in an ICU unit. Spending this amount of time in hospital literally opened my eyes to how fragile and delicate life is. An ever bigger wake up call was when I turned 24 years of age and spent my day in a hospital bed.

I literally only wanted to come back on and say hello and that the Irish Student is back in action. Expect some exciting travel and tips coming over the next few weeks. Now that I have settled in to college and will be home recuperating, you will be feed up of all the new posts.

I recently invested in some near Gym Gear from Millie & Gym! These are super affordable and very comfortable. I love the bright colours definitely makes going to the gym fun!

Follow some Fitness YouTubers


This is one of my favourite things to do both when I am in the gym and not in the gym! I follow so many Fitness YouTubers such as Nikki Blackketter and Kara Corey just to name two. Following these people really help keep the motivation going as they show you their workouts, what they eat in a day and what they do when they fall off the band wagon! Its so refreshing to see that these Fitness people do also go through the same struggles we do also!

Do some Gym Classes

The Gym I go to offers a wide range of gym classes such as Body Pump, Body Attack, Body Balance, Spinning, Yoga, Pilates, HITT classes and many more. When I lose some motivation and find myself getting lazy I always try do some classes. During the 45 minute classes you will push yourself and won’t be able to slack off like you could if you were in the gym on your own.

Remind yourself of your goals!


This is something I never did until recently! It was recommended to me that you start each day by writing down your goals for the day and how you are going to achieve them! Make your bigger goals in to small goals that are achievable throughout the day! When you feel like have that extra cookie or not sticking to your gym plans all you have to do is take a look back at your main goal and how these smaller goals are going to contribute to you achieving that goal!

These are some of my tips that I am trying to implement in to my daily routine over the next few weeks! Summer is 12 weeks away so I am trying to stay on track with my nutrition and exercise! For me, summer also not only means holidays but it is also when all the big tennis tournaments start so I want to be in top shape for all the tournaments!
